Tucker Carlson's idea of "They accuse you of what they do" explains things, but needs a name for the idea to be sticky.
Otherwise, it's only like saying "I know you are but what am I?" It's pointing fingers.
I suggest "Preemptive Projection".
-It uses alliteration, making it stickier.
-easy to remember
-easy to understand.
The 'projection' part is self explanatory. But the 'preemptive' part calls out the strategy used: accusing others of a wrongdoing before you do that very thing makes it harder for the initially accused to call you out when you do that wrongdoing yourself.
