I don't know if anyone else has chimed in on anything like this yet. I've become something of an amateur genealogist the past 2.5 years. Part of what has fueled my passion is that it turns out that I'm one of those people who turns out to be related to EVERYONE seemingly--which was obscured by both of my parents' surnames, which, by an odd coincidence, are both false--each for a different reason. I myself am related to President John Adams. Since @ScottAdamsSays has heard that he might also be related, I figured, "Let's find out--maybe we're both related to each other."

If my work is accurate, it is unlikely that Scott is related to that John Adams, though he does appear to descend from one man of that name.

On Scott's father's side, we appear to be "Step 9th cousins once removed". The ancestors in question are from the generation just past those who arrived on the Mayflower. They were both widowed and married each other well past childbearing age. They are Robert Adams II and Sarah Glover. How fitting that I have so few "step" cousins, and now I find a new step cousin, who, much like George Washington, the Father of Our Country, has only stepchildren himself.

On Scott's mother's side, we are possibly 12th cousins twice removed, which goes back to British nobility, though one link in that particular relationship is "probable" at best, on my side.

Edit: I was able to go one additional generation further, and so now Scott shows up to be 4th cousins with both President John Adams and Samuel Adams, and of course 5th cousin to John Quincy Adams. I guess that was not a brick wall after all. And so now, Scott & I are 12c1r through this new common ancestor, John Richard Adams (1555-1604).
